Memorial Day 1999

We were running late and missed the Civil War re-enactment on Memorial Day 1999. I didn’t want the trip to be a waste, so we walked around for a bit. That’s when I noticed some guy taking pictures like my kids, Gabriela and Daniel, like they were walking down a fashion show runway. No offense to the Herald photographer, Pedro Portal, but I was very suspicious.

Who knew it would lead to the greatest bike ride of my life the next morning, as every newsstand I very slowly passed had a picture of my kids above the fold.
